Our organic hojicha powder comes from tea trees that grow in the shadow of Sakurajima, Japan’s most active volcano, in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Kyushu Island.
Hojicha is made from leaves harvested in the early autumn rains, which are steamed, rolled, roasted in porcelain pots, then stone-ground to make a powder.
Our hojicha has a rich red-brown colour and a sweet, toasty, creamy flavour, with notes of cocoa and caramel. It is extremely low in caffeine, high in antioxidant polyphenols and catechins, and contains L-Theanine, which induces calm focus and improves sleep.
Known in Japan for its soothing properties, hojicha can be drunk at any time of the day or night.
